Book Title: 13 Steps to Bloody Good Luck
Author: Ashwin Sanghi
Genres: Non Fiction
Rating: 4
The journey of life isn’t exactly easy… Some people make it through hard work and talent. Some fall by the wayside. And some people are just plain lucky. They are blessed with Bloody Good Luck!
But is it possible to attract good luck? Can we train ourselves to be lucky? Apparently it seems that Dame Luck isn’t that fickle. She is well within our reach. In his first non-fiction foray, bestselling author Ashwin Sanghi explores that critical, much-longed for element called luck.
Through entertaining and informative anecdotes, narrations of personal experiences and vignettes of homespun wisdom, Ashwin gives us a whole new insight into how people can work towards being lucky.

Review

I have been meaning to read Ashwin Sanghi for a long time but never managed to. So, 13 steps to bloody good luck, the author's first attempt at non-fiction is my first read by him. That said, the writing style doesn't pose itself as a subject for review. It is neither impressive nor dull. The concept is agreeable and makes you think. Basically, the author argues that luck isn't a factor that cannot be controlled. He proposes that one can increase their good luck by changing their Attitude and/or approach towards 13 factors. As with any other self help book, I was excited to find out how much I could agree to the contents and to what extent I can benefit from it.
Personally, I have never encountered a life-changing, path-breaking self help book. My style is to absorb the contents and let it sink and  make the magic on a long run. Yet, this book puts forth a possibility of taking conscious action by identifying and working on one's weak areas. It's heartening(yes, no more asking why me? now I can rest my case) to realise that what I get or don't get in life can be attributed to myself rather than to something out of my control. Apparently, there are still few aspects like health, nature that are beyond human limits.

Talking about the flip side, the book is flooded with too much examples, quotations and statistics that at one point of time I feel overwhelmed. Sure, such details make stuff stick but overdoing it makes reading less enjoyable. At the end, am not going to remember most of the trivia but just the idea. Also, I didn't particularly enjoy the rain water harvesting inspiration or the mnemonics. To read it in print seemed childish(in loss of a better word).

Recommendation: Worth reading.

  1. I have Chanakya's key .. got it 2 years ago.. could not read it yet. Not due to lack of interest but lack of time. But will turn the pages now. But any book on positivity is worth reading at least once.. As you say.. better to absorb the positivity.. and god knows we need all we can get :)

  2. I've always believed that some things are out of our control, although that doesn't necessarily mean that everything is just chance. I think it's the mix that makes life such a challenge... trying to figure out what can be influenced and what not.

  3. Oh yes Rubins, lack of time is too hard to handle. As they say, too many books, too little time!

  9. Sounds interesting. THE ROZABAL LINE is Ashwin Sanghi's first and best work. Chanakya Chants is good while The Krishna Key was disappointing. I didn't know he had written a non-fiction. Thanks for the info
