Review

I picked up this book randomly from the library. My daughter, 2.5 years old at the time of reading this, is all crazy for the so-called-girlish stuff though it isn't intentional, at least on my part. So I keep buying random stuff that are labeled for boys. This book is one such attempt. What I really like about the book is that the illustrations and text are not intimidating for young ones.  Here is a sample.

Incidentally, I also happened to pick a lacing toy that had a Pteranodon on top of the packaging and I thought it was some kind of a bird, oops! Mommy needs some enlightenment too :) And to my surprise, it was full of Dinosaurs.

This toy made a perfect match to the book. In an attempt to generate interest, I laid down all the dinosaurs and started reading the book and identifying the Dinosaurs. Look, this has a crest - its a Pteranodon. And this has plates on the back and spikes on the tail - its a Stegosaurus.

Reading this book was definitely so much fun for me ;) Talking about my daughter, she still won't pick up this book as much as she would pick Three little pigs or Goldilocks but she liked the toy+book combination. As I had mentioned earlier, the illustrations are friendly for little kids. I also liked that they have included the pronunciation to help Moms and Dads read it. I would definitely recommend this book to little ones irrespective of gender.

Disclaimer: In case you are wondering why I am forcing so-called-boyish stuff on my kid, here is the answer. I don't. I consciously introduce her to such stuff to compensate for the ideas that creep into her mind unknowingly. If, at the end of the day, she still likes Barbie and Peppa pig, am not bothered :)

  1. This looks just the kind of book my son will love! He is 3 year old, and Dinos are his jam! Am noting it down and will look it up in my library. Thanks for sharing.

I loved your ending note. D used to watch Cinderella about a year back, and some of my friends were like - Don't show him the girly stuff. I don't think that we need to differentiate on the basis of gender as of now. Stories are stories. Let them decide what they like. He was exposed to everything and chose cars and dinos! Boys! :P
